A break from the desk. An afternoon away from devices. A game with someone you’ve just met. Getting active can start with something as simple as picking up a table tennis bat.
With support from Sport England’s Movement Fund, Elenasy CIC is bringing young people, adults and families together to play in Darwin Green.
We started this project to make movement easier to fit into everyday life. When you work from home, hours can pass sitting at a desk. For young people, screens can take up much of their free time. Our weekly sessions offer a welcoming reason to get out, move around and enjoy some company.
One of the loveliest things we’ve seen is the connection between generations. Fathers and mothers play with their young ones, and we’ve welcomed grandparents too. There’s learning in both directions, encouragement across the table and time for families to enjoy something together.
Our Table Tennis England-certified coach is on hand to help people learn the basics, improve their technique and build confidence, with our volunteers making everyone feel welcome. Alongside our Screen-Free Play activities, these sessions give neighbours a place to meet and enjoy being active together.
We’re also working towards a permanent outdoor table for Darwin Green. Our aim is to give residents somewhere to play beyond our organised sessions, whether during a break from working at home, after school or at the weekend with family and neighbours.
Thank you to Sport England for making this project possible, and to our coach, volunteers and everyone who joins us.
Come along, pick up a bat and give it a go. Beginners are always welcome.
