Technology is part of everyday life for young people. At Elenasy, we want to give them space to understand it, create with it and learn how to use it responsibly.
Our Code Club, part of the Digital Hub in Darwin Green, currently brings together around 30 young people learning Scratch, Python, and AI & Data. Some are taking their first steps in coding, while others are ready to try something new. Having different learning pathways means they can build on what they know and work at a pace that suits them.
Alongside coding, we make room for conversations about online safety. Learning to use technology also means knowing when to pause, what to question and when to ask for help. We want these conversations to feel like a natural part of learning, giving young people opportunities to talk and ask questions.
Connecting Cambridgeshire funded the devices (laptops and iPads) that support our sessions, under the Digital Hub initiative, helping us provide equipment for learners who need it. Cambridge City Council helped make the sessions possible, enabling us to bring this learning into the community.
We are grateful to both, and to the volunteers and families who support the club each week.
For us, Code Club is about more than learning to code. It is a place to explore ideas, tackle problems and grow into confident, responsible technology users, with support close to home.
Three coding pathways
Code Club now runs as three step-by-step pathways, using the Raspberry Pi Foundation’s free projects. Young people start where they are and move up at their own pace, supported by our volunteer mentors.
- Scratch – block-based coding for beginners: make animations, stories and games while learning loops, events and logic. Explore Scratch projects
- Python – the next step into real text-based code: write programs, solve puzzles and build simple games. Explore Python projects
- AI & Data – discover how AI and machine learning work, and how to use them safely and responsibly. Explore Experience AI
When: Saturdays, 5:00pm, at Darwin Green Community Rooms (ages 6–14). Free to attend. Email hello@elenasy.org for details.
